The Lhotse, which is the fourth highest mountain on earth, is located in the Himalayan mountain range on the border between China and Nepal and is one of only 14 so-called Eight-thousanders. On May 18th, 1956 an eleven-man Swiss expedition successfully completed the first ascent to the top of the 8516 m Lhotse. The name Lhotse means “South Peak” in Tibetan.
